Alternatives to the Tenure Track at Small Liberal Arts Colleges: Meaningful Pathways When It’s Not About Tenure [A guided conversation]

Date:

Tuesday, June 29, 2021, 12:30pm to 2:00pm

Location:

Zoom, by invitation only

The results of Ursinus College’s 2020 Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey prompted a conversation about the fulfillment and satisfaction of faculty in long-term, non-tenure-track positions. Upon reflection, the team at Ursinus concluded that because of their size and flexibility, liberal arts colleges can lead the way in helping non-tenure-track faculty articulate meaningful professional pathways.

In this interactive workshop, we will explore how different institutions in the COACHE cohort conceptualize non-tenure-track faculty roles and opportunities. We will also invite partners to contribute their own policies and practices on this topic to take advantage of the wealth of experiences among COACHE partners. By focusing on examples of faculty who have defined non-tenure-track positions creatively, we hope to generate ideas for how administrators at small colleges can better support non-tenure-track faculty in their ongoing professional development.

*This event is only open to current COACHE partners. If you are a member of a partner institution and would like to attend, please email coache@gse.harvard.edu to request the registration link.
